GA First Committee - DISEC

General Assembly First Committee - Disarmament and International Security

Committee Synopsis: DISEC (Disarmament and International Security) is the first committee of the UN General Assembly. This committee deals with topics focused on threats to International Peace. Member states face many threats to global security both individually and as a whole. This committee focuses on finding peaceful solutions to complex security issues. DISEC thrives to create cooperative agreements which increase global stability. The adoption of new security apparatuses and more prevalent usage of weapons of bioterrorism in the modern international security sphere is a cause for concern by all states that hope for world peace. How will these technologies, and the restrictions placed on them affect the security reality of nations around the world?

Chair: Caleb Ratigan
Howdy, I’m Caleb and I'll be the chair for the DISEC committee. I'm from Hampton, Virginia and I've always had a passion for the outdoors as well as a deep caring for nature. As a result, I came to VCU as an Environmental Studies major. I'm currently a sophomore student as well as working with the school's outdoor adventure program. I started doing Model United Nations during my sophomore year of high school. The first conference I went to was at ODU where I was a delegate to their DISEC committee. As DISEC was my first introduction to conferences, I'm excited to chair this committee. Some interesting facts about me are that I can play the banjo, I've been bitten by a shark, stung by a surprisingly large number of stingrays, and love skateboarding. I think I'm a pretty eclectic person and hope to bring an interesting, fun, and fulfilling DISEC committee experience to y’all.
